Cairo’s world-famous souq (shopping area). Khan El Khalili is a labyrinthine market place where they sell everything from alabaster pyramids to belly dancing outfits. Ehtnic jewellery, shisha pipes, brass ornaments, spices and perfume essences are also on sale. Everything you could want in terms of souvenirs can be found here, along with bargaining fun. The crowded streets and stalls outside each shop can be a bit overwhelming, so have a rest in Fishawi’s, one of Cairo’s oldest cafes, where poets and novelists used to hang out. It is a fun place to chill out for a while.
